Chrysalis Cycle
Wait! You're saying your caterpillar disappeared and all that's left is this green sparkly thing. First off, don't panic, your caterpillar is still there. They're in what we call the Chrysalis Cycle. Here, we'll teach all about how to prepare for your newly adult Monarch Butterfly.
What's a Chrysalis?
What is a Chrysalis you made ask? Well, it's a green shell that the caterpillar will make after its done eating. The caterpillar will go into a āJā for a few hours and then the Chrysalis will form. Do not touch the Chrysalis for at least 24hrs, it is still soft and delicate. It will harden overtime.
What to Look for?
Even though the Chrysalis is no longer moving, it is still very much alive and much be supervised. What we're looking for is that Chrysalis goes from green to transparent enough to see the Monarch Butterfly. If it turns an opaque black, the Chrysalis has died and must be removed.
When its Time
When will the Monarch Butterfly come? Well, you'll know when its time when the Chrysalis becomes transparent and you can see the Monarch inside. The Monarch will usually emerge early in the morning and its very quick, like 3 sec. After that, you will have a healthy, beautiful Monarch Butterfly.
